When I think of freedom...

I think about those who have died to preserve our freedom in this country.

I think about One who died to purchase my freedom in this eternity.

I think about those who live under oppression, under the hand of cruel dictatorships.

I think about those who are enslaved to sin, trapped by the lies of the deceiver.

I think about those who march and protest and shout and wave flags.

I think about One who was beaten, spit upon, mocked, and raised on a cross.

I think about the mothers and fathers who have buried their young sons, a casualty of war.

I think about a Father who buried his Son, a willing sacrifice.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

I love my country. I love the freedoms we enjoy here. I will wave my flag and support our troops and our teams with pride.

But, ultimately, my citizenship is in heaven. No matter what country I am affiliated with, I will always be a stranger in a foreign land. And no matter what government I find myself subject to, I am still free in Christ.

No one can take that away from me.
