It's almost the most wonderful time of the year!

I've been listening to Christmas music this week.

Before you think I'm crazy, I must remind you that we only have 2 more praise team rehearsals before December, so we need to get to work on incarnation music.

But, I must admit that I'm really not in the Christmas spirit just yet. We've had a tradition of taking the Christmas music with us when we go to Nebraska for Thanksgiving, with the first official playing coming on the drive back to Oklahoma. Listening to it before Thanksgiving is like 80 degree days in November. It's just awkward at first.

What about you - when do you break out the Christmas music?

How about when I'm not in the house or car!!

Dad

Twenty years in radio took care of me for life.

I've already started playing Christmas music on the piano. I'll break out the CDs on Thanksgiving Day.

my dad will break it out in June. We always groan as Manheim Steamroller belts out during 4th of July dinner.

We don't usually get it out until we put up the Christmas tree. Music MUST be on for that. I think it puts us in the mood and reminds us that it doesn't matter when the cat leaps after the lights and almost knocks the tree over. :)

Shane! Now I know who you are. Don't know that I'd ever even heard your last name before... just Shane the worship leader.

I always try to wait until after Thanksgiving. But I usually don't make it that far. I'm ready for a little Harry Connick Jr.

We wait for the tree too... but last year, and this year again, we put up the tree before Thanksgiving for family that comes in to celebrate Christmas at that time too.
So for us, it will probably go up next weekend. I know. But who wants to open gifts with family if there's not a tree in the room? I don't break out the music till it gets colder, though.
Even when I lived on the Equator... we could bring out the tree in Dec, but the music always seemed a little out of place with the weather.
It's GOT to get colder around here....

I don't really have a specific time, just when I start getting into the spirit of things. But I must admit, I have already been listening to some! I'm trying to hold off until after Thanksgiving though! I don't wanna totally pass by that holiday. We should just come up with Thanksgiving music! *lol*

I usually wait until Thanksgiving but I may break it out a little early this year. I'm with Brenda. I just can't get enough Christmas music. I usually plan something for the Christmas party but I just haven't gotten in the mood this year. I may just listen this year.

Christmas music takes me to a place when I was little, with loved ones and favorite smells coming from the kitchen. Sometimes I put on a CD and it transports me to that time and makes me feel wonderful to have those memories. To answer your question...whenever I want. I have been listening to MercyMe's Christmas CD I got at their concert. Very good. Take care.

The day after Thanksgiving!! That's the right way to do it.

But we've been practicing at church for two weeks now. But that's different than getting out my CDs and playing my music at home. Blah, blah, blah.

Any time is good for Manheim Steamroller's rendition of "Silent Night." But we don't do Christmas trees until after Thanksgiving. We once left the tree up until June. That's another story for another time.

You're counting Dusty's blog in the minister's section? Have you SEEN his post today?

Tim, I look forward to meeting you at Christmas time. Thanks for stopping by. Your Dad is a hoot to work with.

Mickey, you mentioned how some of those songs take you back in your mind to those fond memories. That's so true. Music does that in a special way.

Clarissa, your worship minister is more on the ball than I. I have so much to learn about planning ahead. I tend to think week-to-week.

Jim, should I check up with you when we come up for Memorial Day to see if your tree is still up?

Heather, I can't imagine why you don't think talking about the size of people's heads qualifies as ministry...

I think I may break it out this weekend. For several years now, some girlfriends and I travel to Branson the weekend before Thanksgiving for girl time. (Shopping, eating, a show, more shopping and eating!) That's the time I love breaking out the Christmas music because Branson is all Christmas-y. Plus, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is just too short a time. We need more time for all that great music!!

I can't wait to hear that famous, 'round-the-clock classic...

... Grandma got run over by a raindeer!

Can I get an AMEN!?!?!?!?!?

My wife has a relative that when we visited her house in Florida (June, I believe) that she still had a cd changer full of Christmas cd's in it. In her defense, it was on a very high shelf and I wouldn't want to get up there and down all the time either.

Hey!!!!!!!!!!

I put my tree up last night...November 13Th!!!!!

Is that a record? Do I win the first place prize?

Shane Coffman said...

I think you win, Terry.

And somehow, I'm not surpirsed that your tree would already be up. I'm sensing that you like Christmas as much as you like the Cardinals. True?

The real question is: Is this the earliest it's ever been up at the Rush house?

I usually pull out the Christmas music while preparing for Thanksgiving -- you know, while baking etc. It puts you in the holiday spirit. I'm thinking of getting some out to put into my CD changer in the car. What's in there now was put in on my trip to Owasso in August, and quite honestly, I'm tired of it! I have a lot of piano Christmas music, and a lot of Mannheim and Kenny G. . .crank up the volume and go to work! Makes housecleaning a whole lot more tolerable! Happy Holidays, Preppy!
