Talk can be expensive

Let's move from cat-language to the english language...

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. - Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians

Check out the great blog today from Trey Morgan on being careful with the words we use.

Which list do you speak from more often?

Negativity is a cancer. It destroys relationships. Yes, talk can be cheap. But it can also be very expensive.

I've lived my life around one that uses all of the first list, and little of the second. I probably didn't fully realize how much that affected me until I came to work with Terry Rush here in Tulsa. His words are packed with the second list, and none of the first list. What a refreshing change! What new life it breathes into a person!

So, resolve to let your words be expensive - not in terms of the damage they do, but rather in terms of the great riches of love and encouragement that they share with others!

To be clear, Alice is not the one I was referring to in this post who speaks from the first list.

Those of you who actually know her would never get that impression anyway, but I say that for the sake of those who don't know her.

Regardless of the phrase I quoted her as saying in the previous post...

Thanks for reading :) I also appreciate your thoughts. You know me - I'm always quick to speak, and I often kick myself for something that has slipped out in an unguarded moment. It makes me think of James talking about the tongue like a rudder that guides the ship wherever it goes. I honestly try to be a light to those around me, but I know I could use a lesson or two from James about taming my tongue!

Smart move, Shane. That's the first time I've seen a blogger writer a disclaimer before anyone could comment. You made me laugh. Have a great day!

Shane,
Excellent post my brother.
I believe this is one of the best posts that you have ever done.
Keep up the great work. I have added you to my list of favorites. I would love for you to join in on any discussion we might be having on my blog. I pray that you have a great 2008.

Thank you, Kinney. I appreciate your encouragement.

I've been by your place in the past as a lurker, but I'll try to start checking more regularly.

Thanks for this. My main resolution this year is to control my mouth better. Thanks for the encouragement.
