Family Friday

We went to the funeral of my cousin-in-law's dad today. Alice commented on how neat it was that my mom's side of the family is so close. I agree. Not everyone has that blessing.

I can't help but think of displaced children such as the ones that the Davis family (here at Memorial Drive) continue to care for. Who will be there for them?

I can't help but think of those who, but their own choices, have alientated themselves from their family. Who will be there for them?

How close is your extended family?

My extended family is not close at all. But I have my friends whom I consider my extended family and we are very close. I wish my real family was close, but I wouldn't change what I have with my friends for anything.

Mom's side of the family is real close. There's about 30 of us that live with in 1 hour of each other and we all get together about every 2 months.

Dad's side of the family is close, but they don't know how to communicate well.

Since being married, I've come to appreciate how closely knit my family is. It's completely changed my perspective on family.

Who will be there for the children and those without families?

We, the church, will. When they are hungry, we'll give them something to eat. When they are thirsty, we'll give them something to drink. When they are strangers, we will invite them in. When they need clothes, we will clothe them. When they are sick, we will look after them. When they are in prison, we will go and visit them. (Matthew 25:35-36) He knew there would be those without families to look after them, so He gave us this mission. May He also give us the strength to complete it!

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." James 1:27

I belive that family do so little things todday. I love opportunties where families can have fun together especially where it is fun doing things with other Christia families. Those times are so much blessings if provided.

What can I say? Satan hates a close family. And sometimes his lies are stronger than ties; but that's when, if we allow it, family can become stronger in Him. It is by going through the tough times together with God, that we can come out on the other side with much more than we could imagine: wisdom, patience, a greater love and respect for His word, less judgement for people in trouble and a greater love for the simple things God has given us. I say we as a church need to baffle the world (and satan) by teaching others about an active love that chooses to work on the relationships even when the feelings don't seem to be there.

Shane,
I was wondering if your church could add me to their prayer list. It would mean alot to me. I love you brother. I am still suffering from pnumonia and severe esophagus problems that could turn to cancer very easily. God bless you.

My mom and I are close, but my siblings and I aren't. Rick's family has shown me what a close family is like and it's been great! Like Brenda, I consider my church family to be my extended family and it helps to have them around to share the joys and the burdens.
