Stampede!

I read this online and fell out of my chair:

"You're slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter!"

I think that could be said of my blogging lately, huh?

Have you ever seen a turtle race? We used to have one every year at the 4th of July BBQ in my home town.

Each kid would catch a box turtle and paint its shell like a NASCAR car. Then, the judges would put all of the turtles under a big cardboard box in the middle of a 20' chalk circle. Then the starter would pick up the box and run out of the circle. (Why he *ran* out of the circle, I'll never know, but he did every year.) The turtles would start crawling in every direction, and we'd cheer wildly...for about 2 minutes. Then less wildly for about 3 more minutes. Then we'd watch in more or less silence until a turtle approached the chalk line, and then cheer or boo again until he (or she?) crossed the line. (Then we'd release the brightly painted turtles back into the wild world of survival-of-the-fittest.)

I wonder if peanut butter would have made the races more or less exciting?
