Gum Guy

I'm finding myself specializing in "gum re-wrapping" these days.

For my interview weekend here at Memorial Drive, the theme for Sunday morning was "Double Your Greatness". I couldn't pass up the idea of having a logo made similar to the Doublemint Gum logo (thanks to my brother-in-law Jeff), and putting it on 500 sticks of gum to hand out that morning.

Now, a year later, we're coming up with ideas for the story of Moses parting the Red Sea, and Jeanne mentions Big Red Gum. Well, that's too good to pass up as well. So, here's what we're handng out this week:

Fun, fun. I just hope they don't make me personally go around the whole building and clean all of the gum from under tables, chairs, pews, in carpet, ...

The cleanup sounds like a job for Jeanne, the derivation of the idea!!

Hey now, wait a minute!!!!!!!!! I come up with lots of ideas, anyone daring enough to follow any of them is now part of the plan!!!! Here I thought our only cleanup duty would be to return the Bible Hour room to the way we found it!!! We'll let you know if we need help, Doug!!

I guess you had the second grade last night. All I can say is... thanks goodness my boys don't have long hair. Though I hear peanut butter works...

Nate had gum when he entered the room. I know this because when we sat the kids down he put it on his knee for a while, then back in his mouth...

I had to suppress my gag reflex.

Next year...Juicy Fruit of the Spirit.

Poor Shaner...You wrapped all that gum, and you can't chew any of it.

Giving gum to first graders and telling them not to chew it until they get home doesn't work. And Big Red is too hot for them to keep in their mouths, so they all have to take it out...and play with it!

Thank you, Shane, thank you. :-)

Lindsay - That's why people who don't have kids or younger siblings shouldn't get roped into doing VBS. We don't know any better. ;)

Wes - I love it. I'll keep that in the back of my mind.

Shane,

I couldn't find your email address. Here's my response to your great post per the poor being exploited.

Good question and comment. Yes, for Americans, I expect it. However, Christians, if we are following Jesus, shouldn't mind getting in trouble from time to time. If we need a text, here it is (The Message translation). From Mark 11:

They arrived at Jerusalem. Immediately on entering the Temple Jesus started throwing out everyone who had set up shop there, buying and selling. He kicked over the tables of the bankers and the stalls of the pigeon merchants. He didn't let anyone even carry a basket through the Temple. And then he taught them, quoting this text: My house was designated a house of prayer for the nations; You've turned it into a hangout for
