Don't Get a Big Head

I'm taking anti-inflammatory steroids to help my joints be able to function. One side effect (among many...) is that my face has become quite puffy. Kind of like this:

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:3

Among the many blessings of being at Memorial Drive is the constant encourgament I receive from my church family. That extends to the Workshop and Blogging family as well. You guys are awesome!

One of my constant prayers as I made the transition to Memorial Drive was (is) that God would not allow me to get a big head over my new role. Getting to lead worship from week to week and participate in the Workshop is an incredible honor. However, the last thing this world needs is another worship leader who thinks they're a star.

God blesses me (yes, it is a blessing) with just enough criticism of my work to keep me grounded. He blesses me with just enough self-doubt and insecurity to keep me from feeling secure in my own strength. I am constantly aware of my weaknesses and shortcomings as a leader, yet also constantly amazed at how God chooses to work through them.

I hope I never come across to any of you as arrogant or big headed. That is not what is in my heart.

Thanks to all for their input regarding next year's Workshop. Although my question was specifically about the evening sessions, know that your comments that extended beyond those setting have been heard by Terry, Jason, Bobby and myself as well.

Obviously, if you just read the comments on my blog, you are reminded that it is impossible to please everyone. Here alone you find opinions on how things should be done that are completely opposite each other. For example, one would be happy with Memorial's team leading each evening, another thinks we shouldn't lead at all.

In the end, please know that we will take all of the input received (which goes far beyond the comments on this blog alone...), bathe it in prayer and discussion for months, and present to you that absolute best program we can in 2009.

And we know it will be another awesome Tulsa Workshop in 2009 - not because we as planners are anything special, but because God continues to work through our weakness.

I can't see you with a puffy face. You're just to tall and slender. I'm glad they are getting somethings worked out with your health.

Isn't it amazing how God works through our weeknesses?

Puffy in the spare tire region... well, it's about time you caught up with the rest of us!
:-)
I think that you're in the clear on this one.

You are not puffy! You just have bigger cheeks now! ;o) I agree with Mike....that spare tire region, I don't think you will ever catch up with the population on that one!
Take care of yourself!!!

Hey, I met that guy at Weight Watchers!
My prayer is for complete healing for you...and thanks for the goodies for Pete. He has successfully fought off the grandkids to keep them! Talk about a big kid...
Love you!

Isn't it awesome how God works...in our weaknesses. Oh, and just for the record, literally and metaphorically, you do not have a puffy face. =) When it comes down to it I think you've been anyting but big headed. You have been a great friend and a God given blessing. Love you
